Besides teaching the first grades English the Navodaya School has given us the opportunity to start ‘The Expression programme’. Free Expression opens creative minds which help prevent trauma & psychological harm, which activates self-empowerment resulting in free thinking for children as social and global change takes place. Expression and Creativity are the tools to help all children to become strong individuals as they grow to become mature adults. (Credit Wonderwise)

U can read more about ‘The Expression Programme here’:

Together with Sister Mercy we introduced the expression books to class 3 and 4. Each week they will get 1 hour of expression. This week they had to write about them self in Nepali and draw their picture. At the end of each session they get the chance to talk about their work. No one is forced. It’s very important that children get the time to open up and eventually talk about their feelings. The main thing is that a bond will be build.

Beauty Class

Elena and I were very excited when we got informed that there was a possibility to teach our courses that we get in Belgium: beauty and hairdressing. Each day we will spend 2hrs with class 7, 8 and 9. We made a programme and provided the materials that the students needed.

We gave manicures, pedicures, facials and braid lessons. Even though the Beauty class was not obligated we still had a big show up! :D

Even some guys came to our beauty classes! :P

While having a drink in a nearby town, Dirk and Sam met the principal of a Montessori kindergarten school. He invited us all to come visit, so we did!

The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centred educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional and cognitive.

We thought an entire day with these cuties! Elena took her face paint materials with her so we thought the teachers how to make simple designs to please the children.
